Tiger runners advance to state

Northwestern High School made a clean sweep Friday afternoon as both the boys and girls cross country teams won their races to advance to state.

Northwestern High School made a clean sweep Friday afternoon as both the boys and girls cross country teams won their races at the Division 2 sectional meet in Barron.

The Tiger boys, with a team score of 38, finished 65 points ahead of second place Ashland. Bryce Miller, of Ashland, had the fastest time in the boys field, followed by Northwestern's Ryan Lind.

Jordan Johnson won the girls race in a time of 14:56.9 to help the Tiger girls edge out Rice Lake 57-61. She was the only runner in the girls race to finish in less than 15 minutes.

Both the Tiger boys and girls teams now advance to the WIAA Division 2 state meet in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 27. This marks the fourth straight trip to state for the boys team and the third trip in four years for the girls.
