Ghoulishly good times for Halloween

The Superior Public Library hosts a trick-or-treat event, “Famous Witches & Wizards,” 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the library, 1530 Tower Ave.

This is the library’s third annual trick-or-treat, with the theme changing every year. Last year’s Wizard of Oz theme drew nearly 1,000 trick-or-treaters, which is double the amount of attendees from 2010’s Addams Family event.

This community event is a fun, safe way for families and children to dress in costume and visit their favorite witches and wizards, like Maleficent and Harry Potter.

Other local Halloween-themed events

The Field Logic Haunted House at 1230 Poplar Ave. provides scary tours 6-10 p.m. tonight, Saturday, and Oct. 26 and 27. Not-so-scary tours run 12:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 27. The tours are free.

The Duluth-Superior Symphony Youth Orchestra holds a (not so) Scary Concert for Kids at 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at Denfeld High School in Duluth. The concert will feature classical and popular scary music including “Danse Macabre,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Ghostbusters.” Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, with a $1 discount for anyone in costume.

Engwall’s Corn Maze holds a Halloween Corn-i-ville 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 27. Kids are invited to come in costume, and trick or treat in the corn maze. Admission is $8 for adults, $10 for children. The Engwall’s Field of Screams haunted corn maze runs 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27. Admission is $8. Go to www.engwallscornmaze.com.

University of Wisconsin-Superior students open their residence halls to Halloween trick-or-treaters 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31. Students living in the Crownhart, Curran-McNeill-Ostrander and Ross residence halls along Catlin Avenue decorate the hallways and are ready to hand out treats as children through sixth grade are guided through the buildings. The basement of Ross Hall, 2307 Catlin Ave., will feature “child friendly” decorations to avoid scaring small children. Children visiting any of the residence halls must be accompanied by an adult. St. Francis in the Park hosts its second annual children’s Halloween party and haunted house at 1800 New York Ave. Superior, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 26, The event is free. Events include trick-or-treating with residents, a haunted house and games for the kids — a safe and fun way to kick-off the Halloween weekend.
