LETTER: President right on environment

To the Telegram: I would like to answer the person from Danbury who complained about President Obama’s oil drilling policies in Alaska and the Keystone Pipeline.

To the Telegram:

I would like to answer the person from Danbury who complained about President Obama’s oil drilling policies in Alaska and the Keystone Pipeline.

You are wrong if you think the Keystone Pipeline would alleviate our dependency on foreign oil. Why, if it (the oil) is slated for domestic use, do we need a pipeline to the gulf? We have refineries right here. No, it sends the oil to foreign countries. That’s why it would go to the gulf port.

Secondly, the Alaskan oil goes to Japan. That’s right, every drop. And besides the Keystone Pipeline is too big a risk to the environment.

With this drought, we can’t risk one cubic inch of our farmland.

As a final remark: If there is a spill, you and I — the taxpayer — will pay for any clean-up.

Burt Burdick,

Maple
