Edina man killed in Bayfield County crash

An Edina, Minn., man was killed when his vehicle left U.S. Highway 2 in Bayfield County, just west of the Ashland County line.

Richard D. Becker, 87, was traveling east and left the roadway to the left, traveling onto the median. The vehicle went airborne, landing in the median again and rolling at least once, according to the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department.

Becker was transported by Ashland Fire Department ambulance to Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Ashland police also responded to the accident, which occurred around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.
