I write today regarding the excellent performance by the Spartans on Friday night and what that game meant to my son.
Attached is a photo from after the game. My son, Garrett LaBare, a 4th grader at Northern Lights, who is a huge Spartans fan, won an opportunity to become part of the team and assist as a sideline helpers work as a student.
The photo was taken after the victory as the Spartans took a knee at midfield and the seniors who just played their last game took turns thanking their teammates in an emotional showing of solidarity. Garrett stuck by the team’s side the whole game and celebrated the roller coaster of emotions along with the team (pictured center, grey shirt) as they went from the high of going out on top to an uncertain future.
Many of the younger players now face new challenges as their leaders and mentors are moving on, leaving vacancies for them to step up and became the hero to the fresh faces that the Spartans will surely foster next season. Garrett, while not in a uniform, but wearing Spartan gear, was welcomed in as part of the team. It truly shows the heart and commitment that these young boys and their coaches dedicate. Everyone on the team has a job, no matter how big or how small. They are important. This family welcomed a new brother to the fold last night, went on to victory, and made a young football fans’ dream come true. A beautiful comradely was shown and I know neither I, nor he, will ever forget what this team means to us.
Once a Spartan, always a Spartan.
Thank you.
Jason LaBare,
Superior
