Agates rock Spartan swimmers; Heinen sets another record

Kaitlin Heinen set a new school record and a new pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.99. She broke her own record of 5:19.30, which she set last year at the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet.

The Superior High School girls swimming and diving team is still suffering from injuries, but the team is growing healthier as it draws nearer to the Lake Superior Conference Championships, which will be held in Superior on Oct. 27.

Superior hosted Two Harbors in a dual meet Thursday and was defeated 100-86.

“We won the majority of events but they had superior depth, which we are lacking mainly due to injury,” said George Lehman, SHS swimming and diving coach.

Kaitlin Heinen set a new school record and a new pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.99. She broke her own record of 5:19.30, which she set last year at the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet. Heinen also placed first in the 50 freestyle for Superior and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Other Spartans winning events Thursday were Tori Johnson in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Giselle Sziron in diving and Nicole Hansen in the 100 breaststroke.
