Residents over age 60 who are eligible for energy assistance may be eligible for other money-saving programs.

“You know, it doesn’t hurt to take a look,” Nelson said.

People who receive energy assistance might also be eligible for Food Share or, depending on their income and assets, one of several programs that can help with Medicare and prescription costs.” Nelson says there are still Douglas County residents who probably qualify for one or more of these programs but don’t know it.

The specialists will be at the following locations this month: Brule meal site at the Kro Bar, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12; the Gordon meal site (Town Hall) 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 19; and the Solon Springs meal site in the community center, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
