The Northwestern High School girls golf team wrapped up its season Tuesday with a fourth-place finished at the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet at Hayward.
The Hayward Hurricanes advanced to next week’s state meet as a team for the second straight year, posting a score of 344.
The Tigers finished 19 strokes back from Osceola, which claimed the other team qualifying spot with a score of 361. Casey Danielson, the meet medalist, was a key factor for Osceola with her low score of 72.
“She’s quite a skilled player,” said NHS coach Steve High. “I think she’s ranked No. 3 in the nation, so kudos to her.”
The Tigers finished with their lowest 18-hole score of the season, a 380. Individually, a few players also carded their lowest scores of the season through nine holes, with Gwen LaPole hitting 42 on the front nine, Molly Lattery getting a 43 on the back nine and Reggie Semanko carding a 44 on the front nine.
“We had a terrific day,” High said. “Overall, I think it was a very positive finish to a very good year.”
Four of the five girls who golfed with the Tigers will return next season. LaPole, a senior, finished her varsity career for Northwestern on Tuesday. High said the team will miss her leadership and consistency next season.
