LETTER: Vote your child’s future

To the Telegram: I am a parent. I am a grandparent.

To the Telegram:

I am a parent.

I am a grandparent.

Please read the 10 cannots Abraham Lincoln wrote to his brother:

“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrifts.”

“You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.”

“You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.”

“You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.”

“You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.”

“You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.”

“You cannot further the brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.”

“You cannot establish security on borrowed money.”

“You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.”

“You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”

Our country has made great strides in cleaning up our environment. We have shipped countless jobs to China, Japan and Mexico. These countries now generate the pollution and profits that used to be America’s.

What is our goal to pass on to our children? Are we so selfish we want our children to pay our debts plus the interest to finance our debts?

Not me, my goal is for us adults to get to the polls and vote so we can pay our dues before we pass on into eternity.

I challenge all of us to examine our motives, to examine the candidate’s motives, and vote for the future of our children and grandchildren.

John Johnson,

Lake Nebagamon
