Northwestern students attend national convention in Florida
Northwestern High School FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) students and their adviser, Kathy Lahti, attended the national conference and competition in Orlando, Fla., July 8-12. They joined about 6,800 members, advisers, alumni and guests. The convention theme was “#reality check” and throughout the five-day convention participants examined and discussed several critical issues, including family, school and community violence prevention, physical as well as financial fitness, future career exploration, countless community service projects and were able to hear several amazing speakers.

They joined about 6,800 members, advisers, alumni and guests. The convention theme was “#reality check” and throughout the five-day convention participants examined and discussed several critical issues, including family, school and community violence prevention, physical as well as financial fitness, future career exploration, countless community service projects and were able to hear several amazing speakers.
More than 3,600 members competed in Star events (Students Taking Action with Recognition, including five Northwestern High School students.
Casey VanTil and Rebecca Johnson presenting their Chapter showcase project, Rachel Anttila, Hayley VanTil and Olivia Hanrahan presented a chapter service project. Both groups earned silver medals on their first showing at national competition.
The girls had a great deal of help and support as they worked to earn their trip to Florida. Parent Chaperones included Robin VanTil and Renee Anttila, Northwestern High School, Mrs. Moss, The Activities Club, Minnesuing Acres-Jon Lindberg, the East End Super One Grocery store and customers, Bayfield electric and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Security State Bank, Chippewa Valley Bank, Rose’s Bakery and Coffee Shop, and Forever Marge’s Floral.
Not to mention the number of individuals that helped us as we did various fundraisers throughout the school year.
