“God’s Gift,” a celebration of life, will take place Friday and Saturday at Cathedral of Christ the King church in Superior. This isn’t a pro-life event, said Lynn Tracy of Cathedral, it’s a whole-life event. Booths and speakers will touch on topics from birth to old age, chastity to poverty, citizenship to advance directives.
“We’re promoting a culture of life,” Tracy said. And it’s open to everyone in the community.
The event, a partnership between the Dioceses of Duluth and Superior, Cathedral School and Cathedral of Christ the King, features nationally acclaimed speakers and authors as well as regional and local presenters. Keynote speaker Abby Johnson is the author of “Unplanned,” a book that was on the Amazon.com best seller list. She is slated to speak at 7 p.m. Friday following a Mass with Bishop Peter Christensen. A candlelight Rosary on the steps of Cathedral of Christ the King will close the night.
Saturday’s schedule includes four separate breakout sessions in various locations – the Cathedral School gymnasium, school classrooms and an outdoor tent. Informational booths will be set up both outdoors and in Cathedral’s Kress Hall. Music is also planned. There will be tents, food, a live radio remote from 97.3 and other surprises, Tracy said. The church is located at 1111 Belknap St.
In addition, Angela Franks will be speaking on Sunday in Brainerd, Minn. and Christopher Stefanick and the band “Lightswitch” will be at Northwestern High School in Maple Saturday. Stefanick shares the love of the Father both nationally and internationally every year at retreats, rallies and chastity assemblies. He is a regular in Catholic media, appearing on Relevant Radio, Catholic Answers Live, EWTN, and in nationally syndicated articles. He is also the author of two books. The Maple event begins at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a consortium of rural churches.
There is a cost to attend some of the presentations. More information can be found at the website www.godsgiftcelebration.com/ or by emailing godsgiftinfo@yahoo.com.
