Heinen sets record in 100 backstroke, Spartans swim past Denfeld

Paced by Kaitlin Heinen’s new team record in the 100 backstroke, the Superior High School girls swimming team defeated Duluth Denfeld 103-78 at the Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth.

Heinen’s record-setting time of 1:02.18 beat the previous record of 1:03.17 set by Leah Smith in 1994.

Heinen was won the 200 freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Also on the medley relay team were Nikki Hanson, Grace Elonen and Tori Johnson while swimming on the 200 free relay were Kaitlin Sanders, Tori Johnson and Elonen.

The Spartans are back in action at Saturday’s Eau Claire North Huskie Invitational. Diving begins at 9:30 a.m. and swimming at 12:30 p.m.
