UPDATED: 'Canes win HON golf title; Tigers second, Spartans fifth
The Northwestern High School girls finished second, and the Superior High School girls finished fifth.
The Hayward Hurricanes completed their sweep of the season with a first-place finish at the Heart O’ North Conference Meet Thursday at Sioux Creek Golf Course in Chetek.
The Northwestern High School girls finished second, and the Superior High School girls finished fifth.
“The Northwestern Tigers had a very positive day today,” NHS coach Steve High said.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 384, which was the best score of the year for NHS on 18 holes. Several individual players also had season best scores on 18 holes. Molly Lattery led the team with a 90, followed by Reggie Semanko with a 93, Gwen LaPole with a 95, Lyndi Graff with a 106 and Marissa Delvas with a non-counting 109.
Hayward’s Brittany Neff was the meet medalist with a 79.
Superior was led by Amanda Hinaus’ 106. Following were Alisha Moran, 108; Kali O’Neill, 116; Allison Shober, 119; and Hailey Gronquist, 124.
“Alisha and Amanda overcame slow starts to shoot one of their best scores of the season,” SHS coach Andy Heytens said. “Amanda was very consistent all day and a birdie on the par-4 15th motivated Alisha to a strong finish.”
The 2012 HON All-Conference team was also announced Thursday, and both LaPole and Lattery earned recognition for the Tigers.
The Tigers will compete in the WIAA regional tournament at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Spooner.
The Spartans' WIAA regional meet is at 9 a.m. Wednesday in New Richmond.
