Girls offer sweet treats to help shelter animals

A love of animals prompted Emma Eibon, 9, and Anna Downs, 10, to fill a niche for thirsty and hungry shoppers participating in East End Days today.

You’ll have to get off the beaten path a little bit and go to 613 12th Ave. E., just off North 21st Street to find them, two blocks from the five miles of rummage sales running along East Fifth Street.

But their sweet and not-so-sweet snacks and lemonade are sure to hit the spot for just 50 cents.

The girls worked hard to make the treats, said Emma’s grandmother, Sue Seikkula.

And the fruits of their labor will benefit Animal Allies.

The girls set up their treat and lemonade stand to raise money for the shelter in Superior.

“I just want to make sure they don’t run out of food and water,” Emma said.

“I hope their injuries get better and are treated right,” Anna said of the shelter animals.

And she knows what it takes to care for animals; after all, she has two dogs, a cat and two Guinnea pigs at home. Emma has two dogs also.

“She’d have a 100 of them if her parents let her,” Seikkula said of her granddaughter.
