Tiger runners win three cross country titles

The Northwestern High School cross country team won three titles at Thursday’s Eveleth-Gilbert Invitational.

The Northwestern High School cross country team won three titles at Thursday’s Eveleth-Gilbert Invitational.

The Tigers won the boys team title, while Ryan Lind won the boys race in 16:52 and Jordan Johnson won the girls race in 15:57. Lind also won last year’s Eveleth-Gilbert Invitational.

Duluth East claimed the girls team title, and Northwestern finished second.

All five runners for the Tiger boys finished in the top 15, led by Lind. Mason Lombard finished seventh in 17:38; Kyle Rautio was 10th in 17:58, Travis Sznaider was 13th in 18:13 and Ty Rakin was 14th in 18:28.

For the Tiger girls, freshman Emma Nelson finished in fourth place in 16:26, and Michaela Ruhman rounded out the top 15 with a time of 17:34.

The Tiger Invitational is at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Norwood Golf Course in Lake Nebagamon.
