Find hope by heading back to church

As part of a growing national movement, more than 14,000 churches are expected to invite people to come back to church on National Back to Church Sunday. Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Superior offers that opportunity on Sept. 9.

Although 83 percent of American adults identify themselves as Christians, only about 20 percent attend church on any given Sunday.

Some people have tried church, had a falling out, and never came back. Other people went to church in the past, moved or had a change in life circumstances. While others went to church in their youth, they drifted away. Some have just never been to church.

Regardless of the reasons, research shows about two-thirds of people would attend church if someone simply invited them.

“Many people, hurt by some experience in church, would welcome an invitation to return and find healing,” said the David Schoessow, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church. “They only need to know they are welcome to come back home to church.”

Christ Lutheran Church will host a city of Superior fire truck and police cruiser with officers on hand to give tours and safety information to children, and will provide breakfast foods and information tables at 9 a.m. along with Bible studies. Church service times are 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Children will sing and members will present a humorous “Top Ten” list.

This year we encourage you to join the thousands of Christians who will invite family and friends to rediscover church. Take the initiative and reach out to someone you know with a simple invite, you may be amazed how easy it is to get a “yes.” With your help, together we can get America back to church.

Christ Lutheran Church is east of the Mariner Mall at 320 North 28th St. E. in Superior. Call (715) 398-3680 or go to www.ChristLutheran-Superior.org for more information.
