Russell L. Hoglund, 90, of Superior died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at St. Francis Home in the Park.
Russell L. Hoglund, 90, of Superior died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at St. Francis Home in the Park. He was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Superior, to Ruben and Josephine (Levin) Hoglund.
He graduated from the former East High School in 1940.
Russell served in the United States Army Air Corp, serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters where he earned the Silver Star and Bronze Star.
He was employed as a car man for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years.
Russell had a passion for fast sports cars and he enjoyed playing the accordion, carpentry, mechanics and spending time with his longtime friend, Ann Kelly and also “Martinis Up”.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2000.
He is survived by three sons, Russell (Sandra) Hoglund, Esko, Minn.; Richard (Susan) Hoglund, Punta Gorda, Fla.; Robert (Monica) Hoglund, Forest Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren Kristina, Richard, Bradley, Laura, Max, Maggie, Morgan, Kyle, Kari; five great-grandchildren Derek, Kellen, Owen, Miranda and Mike; and his longtime friend, Ann Kelly.
There will be a Celebration of Life and Time of Remembrance 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Military honors being accorded at the funeral home at 5 p.m. by the Duluth Honor Guard.
