SPARTAN RDP: SHS tennis team downs Duluth Denfeld

The Superior High School girls tennis team defeated Duluth Denfeld 6-1 Tuesday with a strong team performance.

The Spartans swept the singles matches with dominating wins in No. 2-4 singles and also picked up wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Boys soccer

Superior notched its second win of the season with a 4-2 win over Osceola Friday morning at the SHS soccer fields.

Connor Anderson-Petroske scored two goals and Cameron Gray and Tyler Gravening scored once each for the Spartans. Superior hosts Proctor at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Volleyball

The SHS volleyball team opened its season with a sweep at Proctor Thursday night going a combined 7-0.

The Spartan varsity team defeated the Rails 3-0 while junior varsity and freshmen teams both won 2-0.

The Spartans (1-5) returned to action Saturday at the Marshfield Invitational, where they went 0-5 with 2-0 losses to Marshfield, Rhinelander, Medford and Wausau West and 2-1 to Altoona.

Through six matches, Jessica Lindstrom leads the Spartans with 32 kills, 17 blocks (16 solo) and 39 digs.

Alison Wainionpaa has four ace serves, 14 blocks, 16 digs and 47 of Superior’s 53 set assists; Lily Kline has 19 kills, four aces and six assists; Ellen Stromgren has 16 kills and 16 digs; Haley Tribbey has 11 kills and 26 digs; and Alex Olsen is serving at 96 percent with three aces and 22 digs.

The Spartans will play in the Hudson Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
