Falls prevention focuses on safety for seniors

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, falls have surpassed motor vehicle crashes as the most common cause of injury related death in Wisconsin, and the majority of injuries due to unintentional falls occurs in Wisconsin residents 65 years of age and older. Many falls can be prevented.

The Douglas County Aging and Disability Resource Center and Senior Connections sponsors a Falls Prevention Awareness event 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 24 at Senior Connections, 1805 N. 16th St., Superior.

The University of Minnesota Duluth pharmacy students and the UW-Extension nutrition educators make short presentations at the event, and will also be available for any questions you may have. There will also be information available on the Matter of Balance Fall Prevention curriculum and scheduled classes will be displayed as well as tips to prevent falls.
