Fred C. Molter, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, with family at his side.

He was born April 17, 1923, in Superior, where he lived until 2006. He spent the last six years at Keystone Bluffs Assisted Living.

Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1940-1945. He married Mary J. O'Malley on Aug. 15, 1945. He was employed as an automotive electrician, at one time owning his own business. There was nothing that he couldn't fix. As an avid fisherman, he never met a fish he didn't like!

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Joy" O'Malley; daughter, Patricia Swaab; sons, Charles and Terrence Molter; and sisters Claire and Jean.

He is survived by sons, Michael (Ann) and James (Laura); a daughter Mary; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Judith O'Malley.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral services at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 in the Downs Funeral Home 19th and Ogden with Rev. James Tobolski officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
