Northwestern golfers enjoy 3-1 week

The Northwestern High School girls golf team went 3-1 this week in a pair of head-to-head Heart O’ North Conference matches.

“Wednesday was a good day for the Tigers,” said NHS coach Steve High.
Northwestern won Wednesday’s match at Barron with a team score of 193, the Tigers’ lowest nine-hole score of the season. Barron finished second with a 221, and Cumberland was third with 222.
Gwen LaPole and Molly Lattery tied for the Tigers’ low score, both carding a 45. Reggie Semanko carded a 51, and Marissa Delvas had a 52. Kayla Janowicz added a non-counting 53.
In junior varsity action, Lyndi Graff also scored a 53 for the Tigers. Freshman Cora Jarman shot her best round of the year and is learning quickly, High said.
On Tuesday, Northwestern hosted Spooner and Superior at Botten’s Green Acres. Spooner won with a 196. Northwestern finished at 207. The Spartans had a 234 team score.
LaPole earned meet medalist honors with a 43.
“She’s continued, obviously, to lead our team as a returning letter-winner,” High said. He said LaPole has been a consistent golfer this season for the Tigers.
Lattery carded a 50 for Northwestern, while Semanko and Delvas both had 57s. Graff had a non-counting 67.
Northwestern hosts Ladysmith on Thursday at Botten’s Green Acres. After that the Tigers have only one more HON meet before the Northwestern Invitational at Hidden Greens Golf Course on Sept. 13. The HON conference meet is 9 a.m. Sept. 19 at Chetek.
