Clyde Markon, M.D., was named medical director of the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Health Care System’s network of outreach clinics in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

For the past 8 years, Dr. Markon has served as medical director of the VA’s Twin Ports Outpatient Clinic in Superior.

An internist with special training in kidney disease, Dr. Markon is a graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine. He did his nephrology fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis.

Dr. Markon served as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve; he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to continue to serve veterans,” said Markon.

Minneapolis VA operates 11 clinics. In addition to Twin Ports, they are located in Rochester, Mankato, St. James, Maplewood, Hibbing and Cook in Minnesota; and Hayward, Rice Lake and Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin.

More than 30,000 veterans are enrolled in care at these sites, called community-based outpatient clinics.

“Dr. Markon is an exceptional clinician and administrator,” said Dr. Kent Crossley, chief of staff, Minneapolis VA Health Care System. “His military experience provides him with a special insight into the needs of our fastest growing veteran population, the young men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
