SHS netters have home opener spoiled by Oredockers

The Superior High School girls tennis team played its first home match of the season Monday, hosting the Ashland Oredockers.

Ashland swept the Spartans in singles and doubles play, with the closest match coming at No. 2 singles. Ashland’s Molly Demurs opened with a 6-2 victory in the opening set, but Keely McCall rebounded to take the second set 6-3. In the tiebreaker, play remained close, but Demurs eventually took a 10-8 advantage to claim the match.

Superior was at Duluth Denfeld on Tuesday and returns home Sept. 4 to host Denfeld.

2. Molly Demurs (A) def. Keely McCall (S), 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

1. Emily Gluff/Kehura Olson (A) def. Jess Engstrom/Sara Olson (S), 6-3, 6-2.

2. Machenzie Klemer/Kala Sutren (A) def. Harmony Clark/Lindsey Sommer (S), 6-2, 7-5.

3. Kallie McCarty/Samantha Olipurt (A) def. Carli Webber/Emma Buckley, 6-4, 7-5.
