The Grumpy’s men’s softball team from Superior recently concluded its first season in the Duluth Men’s Tuesday Night Softball League at Wheeler Fields in Duluth. The league had two eight-team divisions: the National Division and the American Division.
Grumpy’s finished the season 10-4 to take second place in the National Division. The Superior men finished their season on a seven-game winning streak after starting the first half of the season 3-4. Overall, Grumpy’s ranked fifth among the 16 teams in the league.
Grumpy’s entered the playoffs with a No. 2 seed in the National Division and No. 5 seed for the playoffs.
On Tuesday, Grumpy’s opened the playoffs with a 12-10 win over Clubhouse Coors of Duluth. Grumpy’s was then knocked out of the playoffs with an 8-2 loss to the Players Sports Bar Beer Hunters.
Grumpy’s finished its first season in the Duluth league with an 11-5 record and eight victories in its last nine games.
Players for the Grumpy’s men’s softball team are coach Ken Brown, manager Kirk Bolts, coach Rick McDermott, Mike Nikstad, Mike Jones, Tony LaValley, Al Kurtz, Jeff Gilbertson, Dan Vicklund, Doug Trentor, Dan Botten, Justin Johnson, Justin Gotelaere, Adam Burhans, Bruce Butler, Ryan Young and brothers Tommie and Jessie Mehtala.
