ELLSWORTH -- A 41-year-old rural Spring Valley woman, who reportedly struck three children with a cornstalk, has been charged in Pierce County Court with two felony counts of child abuse.
Tracy L. Blair is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday. The charges have a combined maximum penalty of three years in prison.
According to court records:
Three teenage children were concerned about Blair's welfare Friday after watching her ride a bicycle from their residence while she was intoxicated. The children followed Blair, who eventually got off the bike and walked back to the residence.
At one point, Blair went through a cornfield. The children followed, and when they came out of the field, Blair tore off a corn stalk with ears attached and swung it at the children, striking them several times and leaving minor cuts and scrapes.
Blair, who repeatedly used vulgarities, eventually was restrained and arrested. A preliminary breath test indicated Blair had a blood alcohol level of 0.171 percent, more than twice the state's legal definition of intoxication.
