Superior’s Larson playing volleyball for Central Lakes

Former Superior High School Spartan Amanda Larson, a freshman, is playing volleyball for the Central Lakes College Raiders of Brainerd, Minn., in 2012.

She is among seven newcomers expected to perform well with a group of five veteran leaders for Coach Jane Peterson’s team.

“This class has it all — defenders, hitters, setters, blockers, and good experience,” the coach said.

Larson is an outside hitter.

CLC competes in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. In the last 12 years the Raiders have won three national championships.

“We should be a more powerful team with a variety of offensive options,” Peterson said. “We should have a consistent, good, strong blocking game backed by a tenacious back row.”

CLC will play its first home match at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 vs. North Dakota State College of Science, a scholarship, Division II team making its first appearance in Brainerd.

The Raiders host a triangular Saturday, Sept. 15 that includes matches vs. Mesabi Range (noon) and Anoka-Ramsey (4 p.m.).
