Jack K. Bergum of South Range, a Superior High School graduate, won a college-sponsored merit scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. Bergum plans to pursue a possible career in law. College-sponsored National Merit Scholarships provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Johnathon Walsburg of Superior was awarded a $5,000 WolfPACT Scholarship from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. Walsburg is the son of Jereb and Shelly Walsburg. He is a graduate of Superior High School and begins classes at NSU in the fall. He is undecided on his major.
Niccolo W. Pufall of Ashland was awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship. Pufall is the son of Donald and Roberta Pufall of Lake Park Road; grandson of Richard Pufall of Main Street East; and nephew of Carol Pufall of State Highway 137, all of Ashland. He is a 2012 graduate of Ashland High School.
Two new students and six returning students at the University of Wisconsin-Superior will receive the Sentry Insurance Student Leadership Scholarship for students majoring in business administration, computer science, accounting, finance, or mathematics-actuarial science. Recipients are chosen initially based on placing in the top 15 percent of their high school graduating class and involvement in extra-curricular or community activities, charitable organizations and other endeavors that demonstrate leadership, and can be renewed for up to four years. Students receiving Sentry Insurance Student Leadership Scholarships are Hunter McGraw of Meadowlands, Minn.; Alex Williamson of Baxter, Minn.; Anthony Remund of Andover, Minn.; Trent Van Damme of Superior; Dillon Beesley of Iron River; Samuel Holden of Spooner, Wis.; Courtney Bartlett of Proctor, Minn.; and Derek Stauber of Duluth.
The National Society of High School Scholars recognized and selected Aaron M. Foley for membership. Foley is a senior at Superior High School. He is involved in youth leadership, soccer, hockey and Faith United Methodist Church. His parents are Lori Foley and Mark Foley, both of Superior.
