Blatnik bridge construction leads to DTA detours in Superior
Due to the construction on the Blatnik Bridge’s southbound driving lane from Duluth to Superior, the DTA will detour its Route 16 buses onto the Bong Bridge en-route to Superior on Monday.
Due to the construction on the Blatnik Bridge’s southbound driving lane from Duluth to Superior, the DTA will detour its Route 16 buses onto the Bong Bridge en-route to Superior on Monday. The Blatnik Bridge construction and Route 16 detours are expected to continue until mid-September. The DTA does not anticipate any major delays in service during this time. Passengers should expect buses to run as scheduled.
Route 16 buses will depart downtown Duluth via Superior Street then detour to the freeway at the entrance of Mesaba Avenue, and continue on the freeway to the Bong Bridge, Belknap Street, Banks Avenue, Winter Street, Tower Avenue to 14th Street and regular route. Buses from Superior to Duluth will not be affected by the southbound lane closure and will run regular routing.
North End passengers will be served by DTA shuttle services from downtown Superior to North End Superior during morning and afternoon peak hours, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., on weekdays. No shuttle service will be provided during off-peak weekday hours or on weekends. Shuttle schedules can be obtained from your bus driver.
Weekday DTA service from Superior’s North End to Tower Avenue and 14th Street will be provided every half hour during the peak hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Transfers to Itasca, Billings Park or South Superior will be made on Tower Avenue.
North End residents wishing to travel to Itasca or transfer to Billings Park and South Superior buses during off-peak and weekends will have to find alternate ways to downtown Superior.
DTA service will be provided during the southbound lane closure to Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries – departing the Holiday Center bus stop at 7:02 a.m., 8:02 a.m. and noon. DTA service from Goodwill Industries to downtown Duluth will not be affected by the southbound lane closure and will run as scheduled. Passengers on Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries wishing to travel to Superior are advised to travel to downtown Duluth and transfer to a Route 16 Duluth-Superior bus.
