Two men are facing drug-trafficking charges after being stopped in a car Saturday with marijuana, heroin, a pistol and a 4-year-old.
Joshua Kletzke, 29, of Onalaska ran when an officer stopped a Chevy Cavalier with a burned-out brake light shortly after 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Hagar Street, according to police reports. The officer got a strong whiff of marijuana from the car, which contained the driver, Alexandria Anderson, 21; Mitchell McCumber, 28; and the child.
A search turned up a glass jar with 14 bags of 1.5 to 1.8 grams of marijuana and bags containing a total of 3.7 grams of heroin, according to reports. In the trunk was a .40-caliber handgun and ammunition. Police also found a toiletry bag containing brass knuckles with a label indicating it belonged to Kletzke's father.
During the arrest, an officer took McCumber's cellphone, which rang twice with calls from someone named "Peach," who police later determined to be Kletzke. Anderson told police they'd gone to Caledonia, Minn., for Kletzke to get something; they ate at Perkins and stopped so McCumber could pick up his daughter.
Anderson, who had a pipe and a small bag of marijuana in her purse, was released on a signature bond for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, according to reports.
McCumber was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver heroin and marijuana. He is expected to be charged Wednesday in La Crosse County Circuit Court.
Police are looking for Kletzke on suspicion of similar charges and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Judge Ramona Gonzalez ordered McCumber, who prosecutors said has a "lengthy criminal history" and is awaiting sentencing on two cases, held with a $25,000 cash bond.
"Mr. McCumber is a danger to himself and the community," Gonzalez said.
