Artist sought to decorate state Christmas tree

Gov. Scott Walker will be accepting applications to decorate Wisconsin’s 2012 National Christmas Tree Display through the end of the month. Each year the Governor selects a professional artist to work with a youth arts class/program to create ornaments, which will be displayed on Wisconsin’s national Christmas Tree in Washington D.C.

“Last year Wisconsin’s national Christmas Tree was decorated with ornaments made by art students from Edgar High School,” said Governor Scott Walker. “This year, to commemorate 2012 as the Year of the Veteran, artists should apply to my office. We’ll randomly select an applicant and pair him or her with a group of children who have family members who are veterans or are currently serving in the military. Together they’ll work to decorate Wisconsin’s national Christmas Tree.”

This project will bring together a Wisconsin artist with children representing the local veterans service organizations and guard and reserve units. The artist or art teacher will work with youth from his or her community to decorate globes, which are provided by the National Park Foundation. To apply artists or art teachers should send the following information to govpress@wisconsin.gov: Name of artist/art teacher, email, phone number, mailing address, brief description of artistic background and training. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31.
