A Fitchburg woman who police say stabbed her 6-year-old daughter and herself early Monday told an officer, "I went crazy, tried to kill my daughter and myself," court documents state.
The girl, Adrianna Harmon, who suffered life-threatening wounds to the chest and back, including a punctured lung, told an officer, "Mommy tried to kill me," according to a search warrant filed Tuesday in Dane County Circuit Court.
Police said Tuesday the child remains hospitalized in critical condition, but is expected to recover.
The mother, Tasha D. Harmon, 30, is in serious condition but stable. Police said they expect to ask the District Attorney's office later this week to charge Harmon with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
The stabbings occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. in Harmon's apartment at 5174 Anton Drive.
According to the search warrant filing:
Harmon, who was covered in blood, went to the apartment of a neighbor and told her, "I just stabbed my daughter and myself." The neighbor found the child covered in blood and laying on a bed with a steak knife near her feet.
Police described the knife as about 7 inches long with a blade about 3 1/2 inches long.
Harmon had stab wounds on her chest and throat, police said.
Knives, notes, books and journals were among items taken by police during a search of the apartment.
According to online court records, Harmon has a felony conviction for second-degree recklessly endangering safety for a 2007 incident and misdemeanor convictions for issuing bad checks, criminal trespass and bail jumping.
