The 16U Superior Cougars softball team recently won the Wisconsin Amateur Softball Association Class C State Tournament in Baraboo, Wis.
The Cougars defeated the Madison Kaos 7-3 in the championship game.
“The girls had a great tournament,” said Steve Fregin, head coach of the Cougars. “Outstanding pitching and timely hitting were the keys to success.
“Everyone played a role en route to winning the championship.”
Alison Wainionpaa was the winning pitcher for Superior in the championship game. She struck out 11 batters and walked five while allowing four hits in seven innings of work.
Ari Jago led the Cougars on offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Emily Hansen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI; Nicole Koenen was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; and Taylor Nelson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Members of the Superior Cougars are: Harmony Clarke, Rachal Fregin, Morgan Gramstrup, Hansen, Jago, Shannon Johnstad, Koenen, Jessica Lindstrom, Nelson, Tailor Schuster, Haley Siers and Wainionpaa.
The team is coached by Steve Fregin, Clyde Jago and Mitch Lindstrom.
