It appeared that Hibbing’s Chris Olson was going to wrap up his first career Late Model feature Tuesday night at AMSOIL Speedway during the head of the Lakes Fair races. Olson made a slick move at the beginning of the 20-lap feature and took the lead off the second turn, a lead he would hold until the very last lap.

Olson led Jeff Provinzino, Joey Ogston, Darrell Nelson and Zach Wohlers five laps into the race. With Olson widening his lead, Pat Doar and Jake Redetzke made their way into the top six. Nelson over hauled Provinzino for second by the half-way point and closed up on Olson.

With six laps to go Nelson took a peek to the inside of Olson and drew alongside. It appeared that Olson would hold Nelson off, but Nelson would have none of that and got by during the final circuit to take his second win of the season. Nelson’s win was the first repeat Late Model feature winner in a year at the speedway. Doar, Redetzke and Provinzino rounded out the top five.

Darrell Nelson did his usual quick change from the Late Model to the Modified, rolled onto the speedway and won the 20-lap feature.

Kevin Eder jumped from the outside of the front row to take a commanding lead followed by Jeff Tardy, Nelson, Jody Bellefeuille, Kelly Estey and Skeeter Estey. Nelson soon gravitated into second and set out to run down Eder. By the half-way point Nelson got past Eder for the lead with Tardy, Kelly Estey, Bellefeuille and Al Uotinen following. Kelly Estey ran second with Eder third, Tardy fourth and Uotinen up to finish fifth. It was Nelson’s third feature win of the season.

By the time the 20-lap Super Stock feature saw the checkered flag, caution flags had whittled down the 21-car field to 15 courtesy of two big pile ups, one in the first turn and one in the second turn. All of the caution periods came in the first three laps causing officials to restart the event single file.

A flat tire in his heat race put point leader Scott Lawrence at the back of the field for the start. Mike Bellefeuille led from the beginning leading Shane Kisling Jim Campbell, Dave Flynn and Trevor Wilson. By the midpoint Bellefeuille led Kisling, Campbell, Cory Casari and Dave Flynn. Lawrence had moved up to seventh just behind Wilson, whom he got by for sixth at the end.

Bellefeuille went on to take his third feature win of the season over Kisling, Campbell, Casari and Flynn in the top five.

Tyler Luger took the early lead in the 15-lap Midwest Modified feature, but the it was to be the Cory Crapser show as the WISSOTA national point leader in the division was looking to add to his lead and looking for his 28th feature win of the season.

Crapser reached his goals for the night with a strong run as he worked his way to second from his third row starting spot to battle Dan Kingsley for the win with eight laps remaining. A caution flag with six laps to go gave Crapser his chance. At the green he got a great start and took the lead, then it was off to the races as he drove away from the pack to the feature win. Neil Balduc, Cody Wolkowski, Dan Kingsley and Deven VanHouse finished in the top five.

Gary Campbell won his first Pure Stock feature of his career at AMSOIL Speedway Friday. Steve Udeen, Justin Bassa, Justin Madsen and Mark Smith finished in the top five.
