Allen L. “Al” Pomeroy, 86, of Superior died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Duluth.
Allen L. “Al” Pomeroy, 86, of Superior died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Duluth.
He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Duluth, son of Elmer and Thelma (Bergum) Pomeroy.
Al proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in the south Pacific during WWII.
On July 29, 1948, in Duluth, Allen Pomeroy and Donna Cooke were united in marriage.
Al served as a police officer with the city of Superior from 1960 to 1982. He started as a street cop and retired as captain.
He was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years.
Some of his interests included cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild, watching NASCAR, fishing, dogs and spending time at the family cabin; however, his greatest love was his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Richard; and son-in-law, Todd Walsh.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Donna; daughter, Barbara (Cory) Omberg, Superior; sons, Bruce (Pam) Pomeroy, Esko, Minn., and Russell (Kathy) Pomeroy, Marble Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., Superior, and will resume at 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Avenue, Superior. Reverend Sarah Kerkes will officiate.
Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth, at a later date.
Al brought joy to everyone he met and was loved by all.
