The Eau Claire Little League team fell short in its bid for a berth in the Little League World Series with a 2-1 loss to New Castle, Ind. Wednesday.
Eau Claire scored in the first inning and maintained the lead until New Castle scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning on a walk, hit batter and single.
Ryan Venne came in to pitch the last 1 2/3 innings for Eau Claire, walking two and striking out two while allowing no hits or runs scored.
New Castle, representing Indiana, faces Warren County Southern of Kentucky in the Great Lakes Regional championship game today. The game airs at noon on ESPN.
