The Duluth Art Institute announces a call for entries for the 2012 Arrowhead Biennial, an exhibition showcasing a variety of selected artists from the northern Midwest region.

This 59th biennial exhibition continues a long tradition of exhibiting the best of the upper Midwest’s artistic contributions, dating back to 1919, and artists are invited to submit entries. Submissions will be accepted from now until Sept. 1.

Any artist from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada is eligible to send in entries to participate in this exciting exhibition.

Works will be hung in the Duluth Art Institute’s John Steffl Gallery from Dec. 6 to Feb. 10. Artists and the general public are invited to a free opening reception on Dec. 10 where winners will be announced. $1,000 will be awarded to the first place winner, $500 to the second, and $250 to the third. Honorable mentions will also be honored at the reception.

This year’s juror is Ben Heywood, the executive director of The Soap Factory in Minneapolis, one of the largest visual art spaces in the Midwest that promotes and hosts some of the most innovative emerging artists and visual arts projects.

A free full-color catalog presenting all admitted works will be available at the reception and will include a statement from Ben Heywood as well as announcements of the 2012 Arrowhead Biennial winners and honorable mentions.

Entry forms and further information about the submission process can be downloaded at duluthartinstitute.org.
