Woman faces obstruction charges for lying to police

A Duluth woman accused of burglarizing a man’s apartment also faces charges for giving seven different false names to Superior Police officers.

Amanda Christine Cassidy, 25, faces one count each felony burglary and misdemeanor theft, and seven counts of obstructing an officer. She made an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court Tuesday. Cash bond was set at $750 and Cassidy was ordered to have no contact with the residence she is accused of burglarizing.

According to the criminal complaint:

Superior police were called to a senior citizen housing complex for a complaint about a woman who had asked a resident if she could come in and use the phone.

When the resident refused the woman walked away. When arrested by police, the woman identified herself by seven different names and dates of birth.

When she was fingerprinted by jail staff, the FBI database identified the woman as Cassidy and showed she had outstanding warrants.

Later, an officer was called to speak to another resident of the senior complex. He told police that a woman, later identified as Cassidy, knocked on the door and said she was related to him. She asked for a drink, and to go to the bathroom, walking through the bedroom to get to it. Later that day, the man found that money had been taken from his wallet, which had been in the bedroom.

Cassidy’s next court appearance is slated for Wednesday.
