Lakers and North Stars invited to WBA tournament

Four teams from the Upper 13 Amateur Baseball League were invited to the Wisconsin Baseball Association Tournament.

The Superior Lakers were given a No. 1 seed, the Twin Port North Stars are a No. 2 seed and the Duluth Padres and Ashland C&S Design were given No. 4 seeds.

The Lakers play the Minocqua Wood Ducks at 8 p.m. Aug. 10 in Hayward. The winner will play the winner of Wausau and Menomonie at a time to be announced.

The North Stars will also play in Hayward, against the host Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. The winner will play the winner of Taylor City and Prescott.

The Padres will play Whittlesey at 3 p.m. Saturday in Rib Lake with the winner playing the winner of Sparta and Chippewa Falls.

Ashland will play in Haugen against the host Knights at 8 p.m. Aug. 10 with the winner playing Hallie or La Crosse.

The winners of each bracket will advance to the WBA State Tournament, Aug. 17-19 at Osseo.

The Lakers advance to last year’s state tournament with wins over the Haugen Hornets and Hayward Hawks. At state Superior lost to Onalaska 8-0. River Falls won last year’s state tournament with a 9-8 win over Beef River.
