Our Summer Reading Program is coming to a close soon. Reading logs from our Dream Big — Read! and Teen Read Own the Night reading programs are due by Saturday at the Children’s Desk. Turn in your log and receive a free paperback book you can choose from a selection.

Bailey the therapy dog is back to listen to young readers 11:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. Saturday. The program is designed to improve children’s reading and communication skills, so it’s especially great for reluctant and beginning readers. Be sure to sign your child up for a 10-minute time-slot the day of the program.

Karen Monson-Thompson’s artwork will be displayed in our lobby through August. Karen is a hand weaver of fine textiles for the home. She creates table runners and coverlets of her own hand-spin and dyed wool yarns woven over cotton. Design influences include snowball and pine tree motifs from 19th Century American textiles, and patterns from Arts & Crafts, Mission, and Prairie styles.

New young adult books: “Of Poseidon” by Anna Banks, “Above” by Leah Bobet, “Perfect Escape” by Jennifer Brown, “The Hunt” by Andrew Fukuda, “Crater: A Helium-3 Novel” by Homer Hickam, “Gilt” by Katherine Longshore, “Code of Silence” by Tim Shoemaker, “Artemis Fowl. The Last Guardian” by Eoin Colfer, and “The List” by Vivian Siobhan.

Juvenile selections: “Sword Mountain” “Chihuawolf: A Tail of Mystery & Horror” “Giants Beware!” “Llama Llama Zippity-Zoom” “A Bed of Your Own!” “Summer Treasure” “Splat the Cat: The Name of the Game,” “Magical Monty,” “The Loser List,” “Muncle Trogg” and “Madhattan Mystery.”

Fiction: “The Innocents” by Francesca Segal, “Heartbroken: A Novel” by Lisa Unger, “The Last Minute” by Jeff Abbott, “Wicked Business” by Janet Evanovich, “The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln” by Stephen Carter, “Criminal: A Novel” by Karin Slaughter, and “A Conspiracy of Friends” by Alexander McCall Smith.
