The Superior Cal Ripken baseball league playoffs are in full swing with the Mariners defeating the Cubs 3-0 for a berth in Tuesday’s championship game.

The Cubs advanced to the Mariners’ game with a 4-2 win over the Cardinals.

In other action, the Brewers defeated the Red Sox 1-0, then battled to a 4-4 tie with the Blue Jays. The game was called because of darkness in the eighth inning. The game will be completed Tuesday with the winner immediately playing the Mariners in the championship game.

Mariners 3, Cubs 0

The Mariners scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Gunner Johnson homered and Keelan Golat and Eddy O’Brien hit RBI doubles.

The Mariners also got a single from Bryce Connolly, and Johnson struck out 15 batters to pick up the pitching win.

Justice Johnson and Gabe Beeksma had singles for the Cubs.

Beeksma suffered the loss, despite striking out 13 batters.

Brewers 4, Blue Jays 4

Michael LaJoie and Ben Rhodes pitched for the Blue Jays, while D’Auria, Justin Earnst and Ryan Hughes pitched for the Brewers.

Brewers 1, Red Sox 0

Justin Earnest, Isaac Rios and Dominic D’Auria combined to pitch a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Brewers, who got an RBI single from Brett DeBruyne and singles from Branden McClure, Rios and Kyle Nickila.

Max Curtis doubled for the Red Sox’ only hit, and Aaron Hanson and Trevor Dalbec combined on a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Rangers 12, Phillies 4

Brandon Haller tripled and hit an inside-the-park home run, and Brett Austin singled twice and knocked in a run to lead the Rangers past the Phillies.

The Rangers also got singles from Andy Jaques, Brandon Moe, Drew Magdzas and Tanner Kubarek.

Magdzas started on the mound for the Rangers (8-7), allowing three unearned runs on four hits and three strikeouts. Logan Rowe took over the in the fifth inning, allowing one run on two walks and one strikeout.

The Phillies (10-3-1) got a hit each from Caden Tchop, Terrence Swanson, Jacob McGraw and Derek Ronding.

Brewers 16, Reds 2

Evan Hughes went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Brewers to a huge win over the Reds.

The winners also got two hits and three runs scored from Alex Heskin, two hits from Carson Milligan and a nice run-saving catch in right field by Devin Bebber.
