Superior mini-track series draws record numbers for second straight week
The second meet of the Superior Mini-Track and Cross Country series had another strong showing Tuesday with more than 60 people running — another record turnout.
“It was a beautiful night for family fun with a slight wind off the lake to keep temps down,” said Dan Conway event organizer.
One of the more exiting races of the evening came in the men’s open mile. The top four finishers came in within three seconds of one another.
Scott Behling, who holds the current outdoor record for the 3,000-meter run at UW-Superior, edged out Romeo Benish of Proctor by one second. Three seconds back from Behling’s winning time of 4:35 were Jeremy Polson, a former University of Minnesota runner, and John Hintzman, and Olympic Trials qualifier.
The next meet for the Mini-Track and Cross Country series will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 31. Cost is 50 cents and there is no pre-registration.
