Workshop focuses on legitimate help for homeowners facing foreclosure

The Foreclosure Prevention Workshop for the Twin Ports area has been rescheduled for Tuesday at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, 600 N. 21st St., Superior.
The event is sponsored by the Minneapolis and Milwaukee Field Offices of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and hosted by Mayors Bruce Hagen of Superior and Don Ness of Duluth.
“With local foreclosures continuing and mortgage “rescue” scams on the rise, more and more homeowners are looking for legitimate assistance and additional resources to help them avoid losing their homes, “said Dexter Sidney of HUD’s Field Office Director in Minnesota regarding the purpose of the workshops.
Mortgage Foreclosure Events similar to the workshops scheduled in Superior have been conducted across the nation and have been very well received by housing professionals and homeowners.
Workshops on best practices to avoid mortgage foreclosure will be conducted in the morning and afternoon. The event runs 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with training available to homeowners dealing with mortgage delinquency and default issues, Realtors, housing finance professionals and the public.
Hagen and Ness welcome participants at 8 a.m. and an overview of the conference schedule will follow. Workshops begin at about 8:30 a.m.
Minnesota Realtors participating in the workshops will have an opportunity to receive accredited training. Presenters of the training will be professionals from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, Fannie Mae, One Roof Community Housing, the Veteran’s Administration, Minnesota Housing Authority, US Department of Agriculture Rural Development, GreenPath and Community Action of Duluth.
