Superior man dies in ATV crash

A 23-year-old Superior man was killed in an ATV accident on Lackson Road, according to a new release issued Monday by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.

David M. Smith, 23, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, was found after being ejected from the ATV, which had left the roadway after meeting another vehicle traveling the opposite direction. Smith, a field engineer with Jamar Co., was dead at the scene.

He wasn’t wearing a helmet, according to Sheriff Tom Dalbec.

The accident, which remains under investigation, occurred about two miles south of U.S. Highway 2 in the town of Amnicon.
