Youth Baseball Roundup - July 25

The Cubs won three games, and the Red Sox two, to highlight Cal Ripken Baseball League action.

Cubs 5, Cardinals 2

Judd Erickson was the winning pitcher, hit a double and knocked in a run to lead the Cubs past the Cardinals.

The Cubs also got a double and two RBIs from Kobie Kmecik, a single and two RBIs from Brad Renaud, and singles from Luke Denninger and Gabe Beeksma.

Mason Moen tripled, singled and had an RBI to lead the Cardinals. Steve Nett added an RBI single, Reed Rehnstrand doubled and David Fender and Austin Buck singled.

Red Sox 11, Cardinals 1

Aaron Hanson was the winning pitcher for the Red Sox. Michael Barnaby tripled and doubled and Fender had an RBI single for the Cardinals.

Cubs 7, Brewers 1

Beeksma picked up the win and Erickson, Denninger and Terrick Swanson singled in the Cubs’ win over the Brewers.

Isaac Rios singled twice, Ryan Hughes doubled, Austin McClure singled and Drew DeBruyne had a sac bunt and RBI for the Brewers (7-8).

Cubs 7, Brewers 6

Steven Gee, Kyler Frias and Beeksma combined in the win on the mound for the Cubs in their third win of the week.

For the Brewers, Justin Earnst and McClure doubled, singled and had an RBI each; Rios had three singles; Dominic D’Auria had an RBI triple; DeBruyne singled twice and knocked in a run; Hughes and Sam Heskin had RBI singles and Kyle Nickila tripled.

Red Sox 23, Cardinals 4

Hanson picked up his second pitching win of the week for the Red Sox.

Moen had an RBI single and Barnaby, Fender, Kain Walberg and Nett singled for the Cardinals.

Babe Ruth League

The Phillies won two games and the Tigers and Northwestern one each in recent Superior Babe Ruth League action.

Tigers 13, Brewers 8

Brett Austin homered, doubled, had three RBIs and scored two runs; and Hunter Hockenbrock singled, had an RBI, scored twice and walked three times for the Brewers.

Phillies 15, Brewers 5

Branden LaPorte picked up the win and hit a two-run double to lead the Phillies past the Brewers.

Terrell Swanson, Nick Anderson and Terence Swanson also pitched for the Phillies, while Austin Slavero, Hockenbrock, Hughes and Alex Kaske combined in the loss on the mound for the Brewers.

Anderson added two hits and three RBIs; Joshua LaFlamme had two hits and an RBI; Terrell Swanson, Andrew Erickson, Jacob McGraw and Derek Ronding added a hit and RBI apiece; and Terence Swanson singled.

The Brewers had six hits, including three from Austin Slavero and one apiece from Tate Schlichting, Aiden Weber and Dominic Borelli. Slavero also had two RBIs, while Alex Heskin, Hughes and Borellis had one each.

Phillies 5, Yankees 5

Caden Tchop tripled and singled, Terrell Swanson singled twice and knocked in two runs; LaPorte had a double, single and RBI; Terence Swanson and Noah Peterson had a hit and RBI each; and Anderson singled for the Phillies.

For the Yankees, Evan Willoughy had two hits and two RBIs; Austin had two hits and an RBI; Matt Strum doubled and singled; Joel Anderson singled twice; Jace Nindorf doubled and Morgan Moen singled and knocked in two runs.

Strum and Moen pitched for the Yankees and Anderson, Swanson, Swanson, La Porte and Tchop worked the mound for the Phillies.

Northwestern 12, Rangers 5

Winning pitcher Drew Stribley teamed up with David Bethards and Sam Martinson to allow six hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Martinson also went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Donavon Loumo added an inside-the-park home run, triple and three RBIs; and Ryan Anderson and Steve Kastern added singles for Northwestern (8-5).

The Rangers (7-7) were led by Michael Johnson’s two singles and two RBIs. Brandon Moe and Logan Rowe added a single and RBI apiece and Jared Danvosky and Matt Hinaus singled.

Last Chance Tournaments

Superior’s annual Last Chance Tournaments are this weekend. Three tournaments are planned, at the 11U, 12U and 14U levels

Teams in the 12U tournament are: Ashland, Duluth Central, Duluth Eastern, Duluth Western, Hermantown, Lake Park, Proctor and Superior.

No pairings were available for the 12U tournament.
