Four in critical condition following Bayfield County accident

Authorities are investigating a one-car accident that occurred on Highway 13 just north of Washburn at about 1 p.m. today.

The driver of a south bound vehicle lost control and overturned coming to rest in a field on the east side of Highway 13, according to a Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department news release. Four persons were ejected from the vehicle including three young children. The driver remained in the vehicle, but was seriously injured. All five passengers were transported to Memorial Medical Center by ambulances from Washburn, Bayfield and Ashland. Four were subsequently flown to Duluth hospitals in critical condition. The driver was transported by ground ambulance to a Duluth Hospital.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
