A local artist and former Superior High School teacher have teamed up to create a new book series for kids. “The Gnome Came Home” series is the brainchild of rosemaling artist and teacher June Nyberg and retired SHS drama instructor Joy Bashara. The first in the series, which follows a gnome named Eilert who loses his home and has many adventures as he tries to discover what home really is, was released May 26 by Monarch Tree Publishing Inc.
Members of the public can find Bashara, Nyberg and copies of their new book at the Superior Public Library today. The author and illustrator will hold a book signing and discuss the series, which is geared to children ages 5-11, with members of the public beginning at 1:30 p.m.
