Kraft tied for 29th at state golf tournament

Superior’s Rob Kraft is currently tied for 29th place at the 111th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship golf tournament, which is taking place at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha.

Kraft opened with a 78 on Monday and was tied for 72nd place. He cut six strokes off his score for a 72 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 150, which is six-over-par.

Despite a stretch of three straight bogeys early in his round, Eric Busalacchi’s even par round of 72 was good enough to maintain a one-stroke lead.

Busalacchi, who plays out of Fairways of Woodside in Sussex, bogeyed holes three, four, and five, before recovering with birdies on the next two holes. The heat and windy conditions were not enough to knock him off his game during the second round. Three birdies on the back nine got him to 6-under par before he bogeyed the 18th hole.

Derrick Meier, of Badger Creek Golf Course, and Brady Strangstalien, of Viroqua Hills Golf Course, are one shot back at 4-under par.

The third round began at 7:30 a.m. today.

Kraft, who golfs collegiately at Minnesota State Mankato, is scheduled to tee off at 10:42 a.m. He will be golfing with Terry Flesch of Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Fond du Lac.

Kraft advanced to state with a second-place finish in the District 1B tournament recently at the Luck Golf Course. Charlie Danielson of Osceola finished first with a 76. Kraft finished tied for second with Green Bay’s Casey Harrill.
