With the number of homeowners affected by floods in June, Superior officials are extending the amount of time the city will waive the tipping fee at the Superior Municipal Landfill.

In a little more than a week, city and county crews have picked up debris at 237 locations and about 510 loads were brought to the landfill, said Assistant Public Works Director Todd Janigo on Tuesday.

Superior and Douglas County residents can continue to dispose of flood-damaged items through July 31. Landfill hours are 8 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7-11 a.m. Saturday.

The city will also continue to pick up flood-damaged items for residents who don’t have the means to get the debris to the dump. Call (715) 394-0244 to get on the list for pick up, even if the city has picked up debris once before.

Appliances and electronics are not accepted at Moccasin Mike Landfill. Information on disposal options is available on the Douglas County website at www.douglascountywi.org under “Recycling” or call (715) 395-1293.
