Marjorie Smith

Marjorie Ilene (Johnson) Smith, 87, Minong, Wis., died on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Bovey, Minn. to John and Myrtle (Haynes) Johnson, the fifth of 11 children. Marjorie married Thaine Smith Sr., on Oct. 19, 1946. Together they built their dream home and raised five children in the Frog Creek area.

Marjorie is survived by her 5 children Muriel (Rod) Wilcox, Gary (Lauren) Smith, Marsha (David) Bixby, Thaine (fiancé Elaine Bailey) Smith Jr., Melanie (Howard) McNitt; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers Arlen (Sandy) and Helmer (Betty) Johnson; sisters-in-law Irene, Lois, and Bev Johnson; and many nephews and nieces.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Thaine Sr.; brothers Norman, Vernon, Wesley, Gilbert, Delphin, and Melvin Johnson; sisters Marlene Johnson, Delores Tietz; and sister-in-law Peggy Johnson.

Funeral services for Marjorie Smith were held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner was in charge of arrangements. Interment followed next to her husband at the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong, Wis. Casket Bearers were Matthew Bixby, Brian Green, Dan Haakenson, Alex Smith, Dustin Smith, and Curtis Wilcox, with Adam Smith as an Honorary Casket Bearer.
