Bayview woman dies after fall from cliff
Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department found a 60-year-old woman from Bayview dead after she was reported missing Tuesday.

A friend of Jane Stamstad said it had been several days since she was seen. The caller went to her house and discovered her car, purse and cell phone but could not find the Stamstad.
When deputies arrived a short time later, they observed lawn and garden tools near the edge of the property near Lake Superior. They discovered newly pruned branches and a tree pruner about five feet over the ledge.
According to a news release issued by the sheriff’s department on Wednesday, deputies climbed down about half the distance of the cliff that was more than 90 feet and could see a person who appeared to be dead in Lake Superior.
The woman’s body was recovered with the help of the Washburn Fire Department and a boat owned by one of the department’s members.
Stamstad’s death has been determined to be accidental.
Responding to the incident along with Bayfield County Sheriff’s deputies were the Washburn Fire Department, Washburn Area Ambulance and Bayfield County Coroner’s office.
